1st Year: Japanese History / Music
Visible Markings: None (does, however, have the tattoo of a koi fish on her left shoulder, which is easily and therefore always hidden.)
Clubs/Etc: Home Ec, Orchestra (cello)
Appearance: Small, dainty, feminine. Typical Japanese features, though her hair and eyes are a lighter brown than the usual and her skin paler. Curious/lazy smile, colourful clothes when out of class, high-heels when she can get away with them. Hikes her skirt up a little every now and then. (PB: Komatsu Ayaka)
History: The daughter of a powerful businessman and a housewife in Kyoto, Japan, Tsukiko grew up loved by one and hated by the other. Her father became unexpectedly jealous of the addition to his family, never having realized how much of his wife's attention she would take away from him. Through her mother she learned all the small traits of becoming a good housewife, things that included cooking, cleaning and management of the household finances, but also those befitting an upperclass Japanese woman, things such as ikebana, tea ceremony and the idle chatter meant to entertain her father's guests and business associates. She picked up the cello and learned several languages, and her blossoming talents in the areas of mathematics and business began to flourish the older she grew. However, this made no impression whatsoever on her father.
Growing up, it wasn't hard for young Tsukiko to realize that no matter what she did, her affections for her father would never be returned. Bad grades or any kind of misconduct resulted in harsh punishment- excellence received nothing. Her mother did what she could to make life manageable between them, but she and Tsukiko knew that it was a lost cause. In her earlier years, Tsukiko strove for perfection in the hopes of praise or acknowledgement from her father. By the time she was twelve she'd given up on that and did it for her own benefit instead, with the idea in mind that one day she would become better than he could ever imagine- better than he thought himself to be, even.
They all received a hard blow when she was thirteen, however. Her mother, who had been growing increasingly sick for some time, was diagnosed with cancer. Her father dropped everything and began to search out the best doctors in the hopes he could find some way to cure her. However, he also took the opportunity to cut Tsukiko off from her mother- weeks would pass while they were out of town or even out of country, and Tsukiko couldn't help but feel that her father was trying to enact some sort of revenge on his daughter by doing this. She was too busy to protest- the responsibilities of their household fell to her, the finances, the upkeep, and also still had to maintain good relations with her father's associates, which meant the receiving of many guests despite the turmoil between the family unit. She was forced to smile and bow through all of it, though already sick of having to do as much.
So, she did what comes naturally to most teenagers. She started acting out.
Even at good schools with prestigious reputations, there are always kids there whose real lives are easily covered up by their parents' reputations. Tsukiko found these people and became one of them. Many of them had connections with older students, and things such as drinking and smoking became habitual. A tattoo as a dare, some run-ins with police for being out past curfew, being in clubs she shouldn't have been in at her age, being with people as a minor, skipping classes, grades slipping... all of these things somehow or other got back to her father, who, deeply mortified, removed her from that school and had her placed in another, quelling the rumours and setting things into order before going off again.
But it happened again. And again. Although these things taught her that her father's abuse was not only emotional, there was a deep-seated satiscation in knowing she could upset him so much.
She spent time in the care of her father's sister, particularly as her mother continued to get better, relapse, get better and relapse, coming out weaker each time. Her mother and father moved from Japan to Europe, to America, searching everywhere but unable to find anyplace that could be of help. Finally, a place in Germany came forward with some procedures that could only be described as experimental, but which had high hopes of seeing success. They moved there, leaving Tsukiko behind.
It was during this time that Tsukiko was involved in a car accident. Non-fatal, but proven to have occured while under the influence. It was the distressed voice of her mother on the phone that finally made Tsukiko realize that all she was doing to hurt her father was hurting her mother as well, and she promised she would stop what she was doing, for her mother's sake. Her father made the decision then to take her out of Japan completely before she totally ruined his reputation, and put her somewhere closer by where he might keep a better eye on her. Though her grades had dropped drastically, she somehow made it into Second Heaven in That Country. Tsukiko decided to pull things together and get back to work. For her mother's sake.
For however long her mother might still be around, anyway.
And Now?: Tsukiko holds the 21st rank, making her the rep of class 1-2. She honestly doesn't quite know what to expect, and intends to keep others at a distance. She pops into the chess club room from time to time and plays a few games, but otherwise will be seen in the kitchens, in the library, in the music room or her own room, which is always open to people in her class if they need help with anything.
Personality: Though in reality she's a raging litt eball of bitter fury, she puts on a convincing smile and calm demeanor. She's friendly, though claims herself to be constantly busy- which she is. She studies like mad, and any time not spent studying is spent practicing her cello or simply taking a time out to do some cooking or baking. But she's not as busy as she'd have you believe, and despite all her friendliness is actually quite a loner. She's been hurt and betrayed and she's not about to forget it. She avoids close relationships and is again striving to be the perfectionist she used to be. Smile and bow. She's good at that.
